I’ve been spending a lot of time in the kitchen lately, and none of the reasons have been to cook. We have been on a low carb diet so grilling and steaming have been the go-to meals lately. And that doesn’t involve a lot on my behalf. (Why does the second-baby weight tend to stick around?) But I have been showing you guys several small updates I’ve been making to farmhouse-ify our kitchen. And the more I show, the more I’ve been asked about our appliances. So I figured it was high time to devote a post to our whirlpool kitchen appliances.
Back in October, just a few weeks before baby Wes made his appearance, our kitchen appliances started going on the fritz! First, it was the dishwasher making some really weird sounds. Then the oven completely went out. Oh and not to mention the on-going struggle we’ve had with our refrigerator ever since the summer we moved in. So it was time to do some major kitchen appliance upgrade and we decided to get it all done in one swoop.
After doing some major research and scoping out some of our options, we took our wish list to Lowe’s. Lucky us, we went on the night that a major appliance promotion was changing and the awesome assistant let us use the best discount from the 2 promotions (since he was halfway through changing out the tags when we walked up.) Score!
Our Whirlpool Kitchen Appliances
We wanted our kitchen appliances to be cohesive in style and design. They currently were not! The mix of black and stainless just looked like a hodgepodge of appliances. We really liked what Whirlpool was offering. Their products are well loved. They didn’t seem cheaply made while still giving us a good array of options. After living with these for 6 months (what!? that means we have a 6-month-old baby?) here is what we have to say about each item.
After a long debacle of finding the one I really wanted and having to abandon that wish, we decided on the Whirlpool Model WRV986FDEM. This unit is unique in that it has the dual drawers. I’ve surprisingly loved this feature, we keep drinks on one side and fruits and veggies in the other allowing for the standard crisper to be for meat. But don’t let that stop you, the left drawer has 5 different settings, so you can keep whatever you wanted in this drawer at the correct temperature. We also wanted more of a drawer freezer and loved that there was a second ice maker house there. So far it’s provided plenty of storage for us. We give this refrigerator two giant thumbs up.
Our poor dishwasher was one of the oldest pieces in our entire house. So upgrading to the Whirlpool Dishwasher WDTA50SAHZ has really improved our lifestyle. If you’ve seen one dishwasher, you’ve seen them all…am I right!? But I do love the energy saving setting on this unit that uses sensors to determine the load and set it accordingly. Instead of me always running it on the same setting, it’s smart enough to figure out when a better setting would work. That and this stainless steel is fingerprint resistant. You heard that right toddler mom…finger.print.resistant!
With this Whirlpool Electric Range WFE770H0FZ, we really upgraded to a high tech fancy oven. If you can call one high tech. The look of this unit was a little intimidating with all the buttons. But once I got it home and have learned the ins and outs, I love it!! The range top has so many options for pan sizes with the front two burners having 5 different burner sizes to choose from. In the back is a warming element. The oven has all the bells and whistles, but my favorite feature is the Frozen Bake function. Guys, I’m so impatient. I’m terrible about turning the oven on and sticking whatever I have directly in the un-preheated oven. This function allows you to go straight from the freezer and into the cold oven. It calculates the time and temperature to bake straight from the freezer. Huge win in the mom of a toddler department!
After living with our new appliances for six months, we love everything about each of these. So far Whirlpool has held up well in our house without the slightest complaint. I hope this post helps you out if you are looking at investing in a few new appliances, or if your unlucky like us and they all decide to quit on you at the same time. It’s funny how that always seems to happen.
