Today, we are talking all about the unmentionable room, the junk closet!
We all have this space in our house. That one closet where everything that doesn’t have a nice pretty spot in our lives
goes to die goes to be ‘tucked away.’ That one room where you open the door and you hear the faint “reh-reh-reh” music from the movie Halloween. That space we so often say we need to clean out but never really do. So it grows bigger…and bigger…and bigger. Yep, we are talking all about Junk Closets today for our June installment of OYDC!
Before we dive into these helpful tips, I wanted to remind you what our One-Year Declutter Challenge is all about. I crave a decluttered home, but I also have two kids that make those nice and cozy 30 day challenges unrealistic. So I’ve created a declutter challenge that you can do at your own pace. There will be one prompt each month, giving you 30 days to work at your own speed. Grab your Free Declutter Printable and jump in with us.
Yeah, I know, we are technically into July…I meant to get this post together and out last week, but The Barn project sort of threw my schedule off. So today we are tackling the junk closet and I’m going to let you in on my unpacking and reorganizing of this space.
Start by clearing the room out.
As always, completely clear out the space. I unpacked our pilled high closet and sorted it into groupings: cleaning, kitchen dishes, and excess decor/tools. The space really needed some extra shelving. I try to always use what we have on hand, so I snagged a shelf from our garage that had never been used. I also purchased this small metal shelf unit from Walmart for less than $20.
These two things really helped to get everything off the floor so that I had space for vacuums and dog food bins.
