I’m so excited to bring you today’s sponsor Picaboo. This post was crafted to bring you an epic approach to your creative handmade gift this year. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
It’s Chrismas morning! You wake up to the smell of breakfast baking, the fragrance of cinnamon and mistletoe linger in the air. Excitement tingles up your toes until you can’t contain it and leap out of bed. Grabbing your slippers, you race down the stairs…pushing your children to the side to beat them down and see what Santa brought. <insert disc scratch here> You totally thought I was reminiscing about childhood, right? Since I’ve become a parent, I’ve noticed that Christmas is even more magical. Creating those special moments and seeing our family light up, now that’s the real magic, my friends. I wanted our Christmas gifts this year to hold up to the hype. And the old boring photo Christmas gift wasn’t going to cut it (even though we had amazing photos of the kids in the cotton field, a standard 9×10 was just ho-hum.) I wanted to bring something unique to the creative handmade gift this year. So, I created a photobook! But not your average photobook, a family photo cookbook full of our favorite recipes.

Grandparents gifts are hard, yall! What do you give them that they don’t already have? And what about all those pictures you spend hundreds of dollars on and braved bugs and snakes through an itchy cotton field for the perfect shot? I didn’t want them to just get buried in the files on my computer desktop. I wanted something fun and unique to give out as gifts this year. Then my mom calls and asks me for a favorite recipe of mine, Strawberry Cake. This phone call led me down the rabbit hole of creating a family photo cookbook.
Use Picaboo to create your own creative handmade gift this year
For years, we have used Picaboo when creating our yearly photo albums. I love having something physical to flip through and these books are so fun and easy to create. It’s honestly sorta like scrapbooking. Their newly designed software makes adding in your photos a breeze. I simply uploaded all of our photos to Google Photos and with a few clicks, my 2018 album was being downloaded into their software for me to use. Then it was simply creating a layout and adding in the photos. They even have a button that will auto place your photos, but me, I’m a control-freak and enjoyed doing it myself. Maybe it’s the high school yearbook editor in me coming back out.
With our photos uploaded, I just needed to create the cookbook part. I made a simple layout for the recipe cards and by dragging my arrow across the screen to select the entire page, I was able to copy and then paste the layout into a new page. Then, it was as simple as adding the new recipes information in. After getting the hang of this process it really didn’t take much time at all to complete.
We can’t wait to hand these out at Christmas this year. All of the grandparents love creative handmade gifts, so these treasures of our family throughout the year will be cherished. I hope you find this tutorial helpful and if you decide to give the family photo cookbook a try this holiday, give me a shout out! You can follow all of my social handles below.
