Welcome to the Abode Friends!
Thanks for stopping by and checking out our faux farmhouse little blue ranch. (that’s a lot of adjectives right there.) We purchased our very first home at the beginning of 2014 and have spent four years, one major bathroom remodel, numerous nights painting and a few crazy ideas in. This is the home we brought our babies too. The one the caught our eye from the very beginning, oh the possibilities! So why don’t you come on in and let me show you around? If you catch something that you’ve just gotta have then check out our Shop My Home page.
The first picture we took with our freshly signed papers. This is our very first before picture.
We plan to add some black shutters, update the lighting and change out the door this year. The landscaping is getting an overhaul in that we are scaling back to something a bit more manageable. Here’s the current view:
Here’s the before. The walls were a dark beige and the fireplace a bright red. It was very 2014 country.
The Dining Room
I hate using the term Dining Room, that sounds so formal. But this area is more than a breakfast nook. It’s our little space off the kitchen that we enjoy dining and playing games at and the occasional craft project. Here’s the before.
The kitchen was one of the selling points for me with this house. I knew I wasn’t ready mentally to tackle a project like a kitchen renovation, so something more modern that I could update with a few tweaks was totally appealing. I fell in love with the white cabinets and the black granite countertops. See the before here:
We updated all of our appliances, added trim to the pantry door and did a quick updated to the pulls and knobs on the cabinet. Plans I have for the kitchen include updating the sink and faucet, adding some open shelving above the sink and a new gooseneck or schoolhouse light and adding a faux farmhouse range hood above the stove. Here is the current view:
The Family Room
The previous owners had converted the original garage into a large living space off the kitchen. It’s our main living area and corrals all the kid’s toys. Here is the before:
Not much has been done here. It currently sits with a navy accent wall and furnishings. I’m hoping to give this space more love and attention over the next year with some much-needed paint, white baseboards and more custom furnishings.
To get to the rest of the house from the family room, you have to pass through the small laundry room. Here is the before:
This room received a bright yellow coat of paint but is in need of some updating. I would love to do a fun built in across from the washer and dryer and change the color up from the bright yellow.
The Hall Bathroom
When we moved in, the hall/guest bathroom was probably the room in the biggest need of help. All of the fixtures were outdated and yellowed and the walls were a neon green. See the before here:
We just about completely gutted the room, save for the cabinets that we kept. We added a pony wall, installed a slate tile, brought in a new tub and tiled the shower surround, and gave the room a light blue-green paint. Here is the after.
Our Daughter’s Room
This room was the smallest of the three downstairs bedrooms. It started out with some old carpet and the beige paint color.
To turn this room into a nursery, we painted the walls a very light pink, did a matte and glitter stencil on the back wall, removed the carpet and installed vinyl plank. Then we updated it into a big girl room by adding an industrial bed and creating a little drawing and chalk center.
The Nursery/Guest Bedroom
This room continued with the same old carpet and beige walls.
We used this room as a guest bedroom for a while before doing a major overhaul and turning it into the guest room/nursery. We replaced the flooring and painted the walls Mink Frost by Valspar.
The Master Bedroom
Here is the Master on move-in day.
We haven’t accomplished as much as I had hoped in this room yet. Mostly cosmetic and waiting for the opportunity to update to some bigger furnishings. I did get this room painted last year and replaced the curtains.
Much like the Master Bedroom, nothing has changed here except for the shower curtain which is not a waffle white curtain. So much so that it is the least talked about room in our house. I found this old picture as a before for reference.
We have an upstairs bonus room that is currently housing all of our junk/extra décor/baby stuff that needs to be sold. I plan to eventually turn this into an office/play area for the kids. Here is a picture of the room on move-in day.
The Man Cave
As an addition off of our garage, this room was originally designed as a workshop. We are in the process of converting this unfinished space into a Man Cave/Entertainment area.
(Pictures to come)
We’ve made good headway crossing things off the ol’ to-do list. But there’s still plenty more updating and DIYing to go around with this house. We hope you continue to follow along on our journey and see what’s to come. I’m usually over on Instagram on Saturday mornings completing a DIY project in Stories. Make sure to swing by and say hi and give me a follow to stay on top of all of our real-time projects. We have a bunch coming up.
Don’t forget to check out the Shop My Home page for links to products we have around our house.
